Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate hours worked?

Subtract the start time from the end time, then subtract unpaid breaks. A shift from 9:00 to 17:30 with a 30-minute break is 8 hours. Add the days together for the weekly total.

What about a shift that ends after midnight?

If the end time is earlier than the start time, the calculator treats it as the next day. A shift from 22:00 to 06:00 is 8 hours before breaks.

Does it work out overtime?

It totals the hours; overtime rules and rates differ by country and contract, so check the rules that apply to you. Payroll should use the decimal total, for example 7.5 hours rather than 7:30.
